the feeling of fear
Cold fingers reach deep
Grasping something I can't see
Brushing past my battered soul
Wraps my heart up in the cold
I shudder deep in the night
My body ready, to take flight
I need to get out
Need to escape or fight
My heart climbs in my throat
Something doesn't feel right
Jaw's set, muscles tensing
Fist's clenched angry and tight
My head pounds
Heartbeat starts to throb
Breath shortens
Lungs feel robbed
Adrenaline floods my veins
Evacuating the pain
But the shadows cloud each eye
The darkness swallows my cry
My voice is that of a mime
Non-existent and yet mine
Will I ever escape to the light?
Or is this simply too much a fight?
Am I strong enough to escape?
Or has the darkness become my fate?
