Dialogue between two people probably breaking up - torn between love and jealousy
No Fire Without Smoke

'' There's no fire without smoke,''
You said.
'' Don't be angry. it's a joke
'' It's not that I won't listen to what you say
Can't believe what you're thinking , anyway

'' I know that she's made eyes at me
But there's no need for jealousy
I'm flattered, I think, but that's all it is
She won't come between you and me

'' We've talked on the 'phone, she's been to the house
Then all the questions from you
You're scared in case it happens again
Believe me, this time, I won't go''

''There's no fire without smoke''
I said
''Yes I'm angry and hurt again
How can you deny what I've hurt and seen
I know how these affairs begin''

''Why do I stay here with you
I'm a fool to myself, I know
I've seen the way she looks at you
Tell myself, this time, I should go.''
