Depicting the ending of an abusive relationship with both pain and hope.
For 20 years I stood fast

Beside your boyish frame

Reveled in your passions

And energy not restrained

I knew that there was something

That made you never still

Buried deep inside you

Your very private hell

I tried for years to understand

I did all I could do

I cannot fight your demons

I have my own to slay

You took the girl and freed her

From bounds that had been placed

By privileged homes and moneyed folk

Wrapped up in plastic tape

How I reveled in the freedom

To wander far and wide

To soak in the scenes of life

From all the different sides

Yet love is meant to be shared

By two not only one

When was the day when I became

Caught in your spiders web

In those threads you trapped me

Afraid to let me fly

I struggled as they clung to me

As you slowly bled me dry

I fought

I won

The battles done

I'm leaving you behind

I trust in God to watch you

For our children's sake and mine

Time has it's way of healing

I hope it heals your mind

I carry inside a part of you

Until the end of time
