To be a broken dream...
Hopes and dreams
Fly away
With the news of that unforgiving day
When all they hoped they could be
Dreamed they would be
Was taken away
Its so sad
That in their baby girl's eyes
All they could see
Were their broken dreams

Leave behind, turn away
You'll never know her blistering pain
As she tries to live up to all you need her to be
But all she feels like is a broken dream
She sees the truth that you'll never know
Because you refuse to believe
That you have turned her into
Your broken dreams

Pushed harder, pushed harder
Past the limits of her sanity
So that they can force her to be
All that they never were
They see in her the broken dreams
The promises that she destroyed
so they knock her down at ever turn
They never hear her wandering words

Look away, shy away
From her broken dreams
To busy living through her
To hear what she wants to be
Caught in the middle of success in her
And the remembrance of failure in themselves
So that to them all she can ever be
Is just one more of their broken dreams

Too much is too much
And someday there will be nothing left
For her to give to you and your false reality
That her dreams were your dreams
And that this was all for her
No luck in finding the explanation
In her tears, in her fears
Because you don't see
She's simply trying to live past your broken dreams

But on this stage and on this night
She has nothing to live up to
She has nowhere to start
So anywhere for a new crowd would be right
How to express the pain
That came with the years
Of new demands and pouring tears
That coated her cheeks
And made life a hell
That pulled her down
Before she fell

The dreams that she needed
Would have never made sense
It was their dreams, according to them
That would take her far
The same dreams that led them to be crushed
But to dream a new dream!
Something new for her
Would that have been too much to ask?
For you to let go of your resentment
And let go of the past

And let her thrive
Instead she's barely alive
Clinging to now what are her
Broken dreams
Barely breathing hardly believing
That she could have her own dreams

Leave behind, turn away
You'll never know her blistering pain
As she tries to live up to all you need her to be
But all she feels like is a broken dream
She sees the truth that you'll never know
Because you refuse to believe
That you have turned her into
Your broken dreams

Because you hurt her and caused her the pain
And forever made her turn away
She will always be your broken dream
Because you were stuck
And wouldn't let her be
She will now forever remain
A broken dream.
