...as thoughts and prayers are with all those who lost loved ones...
There is no sense, no way to rationalize
when the senseless happens. We cannot begin
to grasp that which is unfathomable.
To look ahead at empty space and not see--
one might wish for blindness,
but it cannot bring the unseen back into focus.
We must then, look only to today,
take one halting step forward, in the moment,
for the tomorrows will still come to those asking why.
We can but ask that memory of shining smiles and bright-eyed innocence
will, perhaps, someday, brighten a dark moment
and there will be joy in that all too brief expanse of time
when we experienced angels. Still,
there is no sense, no way to rationalize
when the senseless happens. We cannot begin
to comprehend that which is reprehensible. With eyes
so full of pain, awash in tears, with hearts breaking with every beat,
with hollow arms numb with emptiness,
we must yet make sense, rationalize the why
because we can't not even though we can't.

Certainly the heavens are brighter for the newest angels
gracing its paths though we be feeling left in the darkness
to find our feet, our minds, our hearts yet again.
There is no sense, no way to rationalize
when the senseless happens. To be spinning madly in the spiral of Why,
to be caught in the maelstrom of images flashing, of all that which
must crush, devastate and turn us inside out
making us sick with the deepest pain imaginable
can only begin to ease with little moments of love, of support and of family
holding tight to that which we do know, to that which we can still grasp,
to that which does make sense in our minds. That strength we possess,
that steel inside that keeps the heart of us beating will prevail.
The one thing that does and will make sense is that we do, somehow,
through the grace of God go onward, one heartbeat at a time,
one second, one moment, one memory at a time, for them,
and for those who will always remember.
