A trippy poem about being in love with someone who hides who she really is.

Her face
Flat
Her skin
A sin
Her heart
In shambles
Her existence
Such a hideous parable
Along she goes
Pretending
That she does not know
Pleading ignorance
Refusal is her right
Freewill is her god
Circumstance stands
Over her head
Like an immeasurable weight
I
A man on the outside
Looking deep within
Use to be an important part
Of her troubled life
I deeply loved her
Even though
She hated me
She was my disease
There is no cure
I am still terminally ill
Recovery just won’t stick
As soon as I begin to forget
I force myself within a step
Just as quick
I remember
Within her presence
Again
I become infected
She wears a painted mask
Her disguise
But I know all that she hides
I can see beyond her falsehoods
I know every damn one of her secrets
The people she fights to fool
Have no idea what lurks beneath
To them she is amazingly beautiful
A flawless specimen
Each curve, every detail
Absolutely perfect
But I know that under such perfection
Is the wreckage of her past
A past that I am a big part of
A past that won’t relent
A hellish servitude that she
Must secretly honor
If all those she has so easily fooled
Where to find out
They would not accept her
They would see beneath her disguise
Her beauty would be replaced
With the ugliness of her case
She wears a painted mask
To protect herself from reality
To hide herself from eventuality
I know who she is
Because as much as I wish
I have not found a way to truly forget
I still and will always love her as she was
Not as whom she has become
But to her
Such acceptance means zip
To her I am nothing
She hates me almost as much
As she hates her true self…
