Two seasons square off.
King Winter challenged Summer Breeze
to battle him for what it’s worth.
It was to see which one could make
the best impression on the Earth.

When Summer Breeze first heard of this,
she lingered in the tops of trees.
Yet she relented right away
when old King Winter whispered, “Please.”

King Winter being so gallant,
let Summer Breeze take the first turn.
But Summer Breeze produced a mark
that Mother Earth could not discern.

Then Winter took his turn and left
some icicles hang on the eve.
Yet Earth just smiled openly
and told him she could not believe.

So Summer Breeze then tried again
and this time it was more intense.
She ushered in her solstice and
the Earth encouraged, “That makes sense.”

King Winter (not to be outdone),
deprived the Earth of warmth and light.
As Summer Breeze looked at the Earth,
she uttered, “This is quite a fight!”

But Summer Breeze was then consoled
with Earth proclaiming this one thing:
And the winner is King Winter,
leaving his trails behind in Spring
.
