I had to write a poem about recovering from depression for my careers class.
This girl in the mirror,

She's not me.

She's fat, she's ugly.

She just can't be.

She hides in her room,

And refuses to eat.

Her parents want to talk,

But they only retreat.

Her friends are worried,

They want her to see,

That this sad person,

Just might be me.

She finally decides,

It's time to speak.

She talks to her parents,

Thinking they'll freak.

But instead she watches,

As her mother cries.

And the first thing said,

Is a simple why.

She talks to a stranger,

While seeking advice.

After a while in therapy,

The stranger seems nice.

Finally one day,

She walks in her room,

And looks in the mirror,

Waiting to feel doom.

Instead of falling to the floor,

And bursting into tears,

Words pass her lips,

Ones that sound good to her ears.

This girl in the mirror,

She is me.

She's pretty, she's skinny.

She has to be.
