A poem about our preemie born granddaughter who lights up my life.
A tiny little creature weighing exactly one pound
made her earthly debut without a single sound.
The first sight of her gave me a fearful fright.
I couldn't imagine she would make it through the night.
But, Heavenly connections and a spirit to survive
is what kept her here with us, what kept her alive.
Respirators and surgeries, and needles left their scars
but four months later, she had captured my entire heart.
We brought her home to care for her all by ourselves
attached to a heart monitor and oxygen alarm bells.
Her brain bleed left us wondering just what to expect,
with cerebral palsy being the easiest thing to detect.
The love I felt for her was very much like the one
I have for her mother, and her uncle Matthew, my son.
But, she is extra special, something I cannot deny.
To our entire family, she has been a blessing in disguise.
For she has given us a specific focus, one beyond ourselves.
Every moment spent with her fills our heart's treasure chests.
Her smile, adorable sense of humor and cute personality
draws our love and devotion to her happiness quite naturally.
From baby to toddler to the amazing little girl she's become,
six years have passed since our journey together begun.
As each day comes and goes, she keeps me on my toes.
making me ever curious about what blessings the future holds.
