He wants to keep a garden snake.
When our son Jake brought home a cute snake
with hopes it would be his new pet,
I felt my hatred of snakes start to rise,
and I got very upset.

My wife assured as my anger stirred
that poison was not any threat;
there was disdain for the snake in my eyes,
so I continued to fret.

Then Jake appeared with what I most feared
and I felt like I had to jet;
thus like vibrations of varying size,
I was as shook as they get.

With my nerves raw I suddenly saw
my wife had come there to abet;
she was encouraging I realized,
it was like pet snake dot net.

Though it was cute I felt resolute
and not in the mindset of let;
it was a gamble I thought I’d despise,
sort of like Russian roulette.

But in the end I went ‘round the bend
and Jake’s outré wanting was met;
so for my son I made the compromise,
and I did not have regret.
