Thoughts on mortality
Final Goodbye

I arrived early
but chose to wait
To approach the place
where she was lain.

Too many years had passed
since we last met.
I stood close-by to hear,
what other friends shared.

With some I felt total agreement
tender stories to share.
But others I did not agree
stating she never looked better.

I can see her in my mind’s eye
full of life and beauty.
embracing life
dreaming of fortune and fame

Some friends were kind
telling of her empathy and love.
Others not so kind
telling of indiscretions and secrets

All the good deeds touted
were probably overrated.
While all the scorn
was certainly not earned.

I walked away,
knowing my road had
Not ended yet.
But couldn’t help but wonder--

What will be said of me?
I don’t want to know.
Do you want to know
what will be said of you?
