An unlikely conversation between friends.
The moon was apparent tonight but only dimly due to the overcast nature of the weather. A cool summer's breeze made the leaves flutter idly while they enjoyed the tickling of their friend the wind.
Under the moonlight, rustling could be heard in the underbrush. It wasn't quick or hurried, but enough to be made mention of.
"John? Is that you?"
"Who else would it be Sam. You expecting other company tonight?"
"Well, what took you so long? Get over hear and take a swig of this hooch."
"Don't mind if I do. . . "
"So, did you see? I caught him again this afternoon. He still acts like nothing is going on and goes about his business. He's got to know that we are on to him. You can't just assume something like that is all hunky dory."
"....hic....Well. One things for sure. He's definately quick about it. He doesn't waste any time. Just, gets in and gets out. Heh, sometimes i wish I had his deftness. I think next time, we should lay a trap for him."
"Oh? What devilish scheme do you have in mind Sam?"
"Well, I was thinking. Wasn't much of a thought, but it was a start before you start taking your shots at me."
"Hahaha you know me too well. Alright, on with it."
"Thing is, he does it during the day time right? Knowing the special circumstances surrounding us and all. Well my idea would capitalize on that. Let's take our circumstances and his greediness and put them together."
"Not sure I am following yet."
"Right, because I haven't even illustrated my machination yet."
"Give me that. It's my turn for a drink." Takes a deep drink. "Okay, well start spitting it out already. I'll be good and sloshed by the time you finally decide to share."
"So what if we play a trick on him? What if we swap out the original for something fake? He wouldn't be the wiser until it was too late."
"Hmmm. Go on. . . "
"Well if we took something that looked almost identical and laid it where the original would normally be. I think he's not that bright and would not be able to tell the difference. I think we would have him hook line and sinker!"
"C'mon. You really think he would fall for that cheap of a trick?"
"Only one way to find out. I think it's definately worth a shot. What have we got to lose?"
"Ok, supposing we decide to get the courage to go through with it. What do we swap it out with? What looks like it that we have on hand?"
"Here. Let's do this." A high pitch scratching sound is heard.
They both look at each other and smirk.
"You can't be serious. You think he's that stupid?"
"I will put tomorrow's ration up as a wager."
"Deal. Alright, I'm off then. We'll wait and see if it works tomorrow."
"Alright. Give me one more swig before you head off then." John took a long drink before his friend decided to canter off.

Chirping in the sky a pigeon went about it's business. Slowly swaying this way and that through the mellow currents of air. It was a magnificent day. During its mid-day flight, a hollowness was felt deep within the pigeon's gullet. The more the wind current beat against its breast feathers the more the emptiness was experienced. What would fill this void? Suddenly well aware of the chasm it knew as its stomach, the pigeon began to circle the ground below for an unsuspecting morsel of nourishment. Nothing below had caught his fancy just yet. He was quite picky about what he would and would not eat.
There! At last! He finally had found the perfect crumb. His gaze went from a searching pattern to one of a more focused intent. Starting his decent he began to salivate in anticipation of acquisition. His eyes slowly gazing over his became more enamored with the idea of gulping up his target. Now, almost at terminal velocity, his dive would not be averted now. Almost there.

"Mommy! did you just see that?"
"What are you talking about dear?"
"Mommy! That pigeon just dove out of the sky and smashed into the ground!"
"Henry what did I tell you about lying?"
"But mom! I swear! It just flew straight at the ground toward that little white mark right there that looks like a piece of rice!"
"Nonsense Henry."
"But mommy it did! And those two alligators over there started laughing!"
The mother had heard quite enough of this preposterous fib. She promptly snatched up her son and began spanking him all the while telling him that this was a consequence for telling tall tales.

In the distance, the most peculiar thing happened. People had witnessed one of nature's very own marvels. In the alligator pit, one alligator seemingly tossed a piece of meat at the other in a kind gesture of sharing and kindness.
