Poem about immigration.
My parents hopped the border in El Paso
To fulfill their silly American dream
Who knew the dream included divorce
And working 3 jobs leaves my mom
no time to blow off steam

Separated from her family for 20 something years
Constant Paranoia about being deported
Looked down on by her peers
Crossing illegally a social faux pas to fellow Peruvians
Her 2 Kids left unsupported

Nations are separated by imaginary lines
Drawn up by some ancient white men
Who say none shall pass
Unless your bank account is fat enough
Well I’ll scribble over those lines with a pen

Now I’m smoking a cigarette
With privileged kids shit talking
Illegal immigrants stealing their jobs
I clench my fist with sweat pouring
Later on I’ll find myself walking

To the corner store
With an indian behind the counter
I wonder what his story is
If he could afford a visa
or if he had to pass by the border patrol bouncer

Nations are separated by imaginary lines
Drawn up by some ancient white men
Who say none shall pass
Unless your bank account is fat enough
Well I’ll scribble over those lines with a pen
