A gentle reminder of what's really important
Golden rays
On lazy days
The sunny haze
         Of summer

Lad and lass
Surge en masse
The ruling class
         Of summer

Run all day
Laugh and play
T'is the way
         Of summer

Cycles race
Shout and chase
The warm embrace
         Of summer

Tag, you're it!
No, I quit!
A simple writ
         Of summer

Slip-n-slide
Wild Ride
Surf the tide
         Of summer

Lemonade
Bits of shade
Got it made
         All summer

1-2-3
Oxen free
Can't catch me
         All summer

Heed the call
Have a ball
Enjoying all
         Of summer

------------------------------

But sun goes down
Runs aground
A clock unwound
         In summer

Nighttime cued
A calming mood
A calm imbued
         With summer

Twilight breeze
Take my ease
The backlit frieze
         Of summer

Voices fade
Dusky shade
Evening made
         Of summer

Insect cry
Willows sigh
Soft lullaby
         Of summer

Rise, the moon
Gently croon
An august tune
         Of summer

At last the night
Settles tight
And I write
         Of summer

------------------------------

Moonlight gleams
On hopes and dreams
Kids dream the dreams
         Of summer

Tomorrow may
They run and play
Fresh, new day
         Of summer

One last thought
This life you've got
Live a lot
         Of summer
