A dark poem about never being able to escape a certain form of control.

A man
Once said
Son
Boy
Man
You are
All but dead
In time
I will kill you
Not at once
But over many years
Damn near a lifetime
You will indeed suffer
Unlike any other
Paying a steep price
Blood binds us
Impossibly tight
Run away if you can
Proximity means nothing
The reach of my grip
The force of each hit
The punishments to be missed
Have nothing to do
With what I’m talking about
Such physical afflictions
Are considered foreplay
Extra sport to be played
But such games
Have nothing to do
With winning or losing
They are and have always been
About one very important thing
Control
And such control
You will come to understand
It will be more of a God
Than any deity known
A man
Once said
Son
Boy
Man
You and I
Father and son
Will always be one
One sickness
One reality
One absolute duality
Unbroken
By distance, space and time
What you deserve
Was tattooed across his hands
Not written in black ink
But rather written in red blood
His shadows still follows
His voice still echoes
The fear of what if lives
He has long since died
Some horrible form of the end
But death has done nothing
To break the binds
Of both him and I
What you deserve
Is not only what he said
But what we both
Have long since lived…
