To my wife on our 20th wedding anniversary.

How many stars fill the night sky?
Twinkling brilliance; distances incomprehensible;
bringing joy in darkness as in each one I see
a glimpse into the past.
Their number? Infinity.

How many grains of sand
are scattered along the shores?
Like the stars above, their number
is beyond human comprehension.

How many smiles have I seen on your lips?
Uncountable; infinite and each new one
more glorious than the last.

What joy to see that one strand of hair
curled in front of your face
and beyond the depth of your eyes
the star-shine sparkle of the heavens.

Like the stars in the night sky,
or the grains of sand on the shore;
how many times can I say,
"I love you"?
I can't tell you...
...enough.
