A simple poem about some things that worry people in the night.

Here I lie (though unsedated),
While things scary unabated,
flow through the cobwebs in my head,
filling all my thoughts with dread,

Creepy things that make no sense,
When thought about, they make me tense,
Psychopaths that stay awake,
Brain eating amoebas in Arkansas lakes,

A madman with an axe to grind,
All drugged up out of his mind,
Walking into a school today,
Blowing all the kids away,

Terrorists, aboard a plane,
Or at the controls of  a train,
Sending poison in the mail,
Or watching runners on a trail,

Sinkholes eating up our cars,
Aliens coming from the stars,
Slowly losing all my hair,
Or the dreaded Obamacare,

Bedbugs in my hotel room,
Creature from the Black Lagoon,
Werewolves howling at the moon,
Vampire slipping from his tomb,

Zombies chewing on my arm,
Midnight sounding smoke alarm,
Loved ones dying in a crash,
Robbers stealing all my cash,

So here I lie – though not asleep,
While through my mind these thoughts do creep,
So by the time the sun arose,
I barely have begun to dose.
