"I’ve Got Your 6"

“I’ve got your 6,” a new campaign
supports our troops. I can’t complain.
The ads are splashed across our screens.
but how many know what it means?

It means that someone’s got your back
protecting you from an attack,
deliberate or accident,
it doesn’t matter the intent.

It’s knowing that we’re each a part
of something written in our heart.
A brotherhood, forged in fire,
tested when the times were dire.

The truth is that it’s based in trust.
It doesn’t need to be discussed.
But, trust is something to be earned.
Too often promises are spurned.

Politicians make grand speeches
but little action ever reaches
those guardians of this great land.
Protected, they don’t understand.

The freedom that they boast about,
paid for by those who had no doubt
of what the cost would truly be,
comes with responsibility.

Remember those who fell, with pride.
Their sacrifice can’t be denied.
Remember too those who still serve;
treat them fairly as they deserve.

“I’ve got your 6.” A heart-felt pledge
to those now on the cutting edge
of freedom’s defense – here and now.
Let us make this a solemn vow.
