Goodbyes are hard when only one party wants to move on. Don't ignore the signs.
You never had to say it; I saw the gaze of misery in your eyes
It showed in all your actions; in the little things you couldn't hide
Obvious in the nights I came to you but you were never in the mood
Or in morning when you'd glare at me wickedly and silently walk out the room
Sometimes I would laugh at something funny and swear I saw you cringe
I'd ask if something was wrong but you would hush me before I could begin
Lately you disappear for hours, hanging out, spending time with friends
Leaving me to wait home in silent discomfort, waiting for this story to end
I guess you finally decided; I came home and my bags were at the door
Tearful eyes started flowing; staring at eyes that can't see me anymore
No, you never once had to say it; it was always there in your eyes
No words, no hugs, no feelings; just the abject stare of goodbye.
