I wrote this many years ago about a girl I knew. She was able to keep my "spark" alive.
Because I was once what I am right now

Alive in spirit, she kissed my brow

Because I strived to be a fool

My thoughts replete with futile rule

Because I cared for only one

My dreams were crammed with pointless fun

Because I opened a nasty book

The dry enclosed an old lost nook

Because I laughed at any commitment

The passion grew strong in bitter resentment

Because she was then, not as I wanted

A truth was denied and the spirit was stunted

Because the lie was all that prevailed

My needs, my wants, were destined to fail

Because he drew me to bring her in

An attempt to woe her and surface sin

Because I refused to meet that demand

The instrument of touch in unfeeling hands

Because that "spark" refused to go out

The darkness inside let out a great shout

Because, she wrote, not because of

It's not a question, but just simple love

That angel did come once to show me the how

Because I was once, what I am, right now.
