Poem based on The Eastend of London's move up market

GENTRIFICATION

The poor are moved out as the money's moving in
Gentrification - no more the Eastend din!
Ghosts of the blitz, the accents Tory blue
Gentrification you know its nothing new
This is the story relentlessly told
Of new new money replacing the old
New new money the cash is hard and cold
You won't get a look in the story must be told
Wine bars and fast cars the yuppie paradise
The real Eastend has been put upon the ice
They've knock down the docks and built the land of Oz
No more the sound of cockneys and its just because
The rich are moving in and buying all the land
This situation is really getting out of hand
The people with the roots can't afford a stake
So the rich can play at Cockney's and acting really fake!

They work in the city and on the stock exchange
The Eastend ain't the Eastend and they are the ones to blame
Remember the days of the pie and mash
Replaced by fancy restaurants, for loads and loads of cash
The Eastend was a ghetto once upon a time
Now its been replaced by for sale signs
The crys of "oi oi" from the cockney Sparrow
Working his pitch on a market Barrow
Doing business with his fruit and veg
Now the voice says "OK Yah!" and flashes all the wedge
The yuppies are moving in and the poor are moving out
Gentrification is what its all about
