A girl loses everything but is slowly recovering
I aimed so high
higher than the sky
My eyes filled bright with innocence
My feet light with inexperience

I thought I could do anything
fear and doubt meant nothing
my hopes and dreams flying high
higher than a sparrow
only to be pulled back
down to earth

I was crushed
my wings unable to fly
my eyes unable to cry
but there was still a shimmer of hope
hidden deep in the darkness of my soul

I saw a light
shining brighter than
the sunlight
I think some people might want to call it love
This light guided me slowly
in ways I didn't understand but accepted

And today I set out once more
This time my eyes filled with realization
of what I once regarded with innocence
My feet stable on the ground held
by the gravity of experience

I know I will fall again
but I also know that light will pick me up again
and brush off the dust of rejection
and heal the wounds of depression
That light will keep picking me up
until I learn to pick myself up

Even when that happens
that light will stick with me
No matter what
I believe know that love
will find a way
to find me
