A poem that addresses the fact that what we're lead to believe about life isn't the truth
I prefer to live in my alternate universe.

Where boys are romantic
and girls aren't perfect
and all your flaws are considered
as lovable traits

where your best friends like a sister
and the boy you like wants to be with you
and your parents are complex
but, romantically so.

Where first dates aren't awkward
and first kisses are treasured,
where there's electric nerve endings
sparked by warm finger tips.

Where you can be a recluse
and yet fall in love
You can get your heart broken
and still be in love

Where you know what love feels like
what it sounds looks and smells like.
Where you read more from a person's eyes
than the words
they are speaking.

Where you dance in a library
and kiss in the street
or you argue in the cold pouring rain.

Where you lay in solemn silence under the stars
and read poetry aloud in the warm summer sun,
or you have all your troubles eased oh so nicely
when the back of your palms massaged by his thumb.

I prefer to live in my alternate universe.
The place where I escape to
where there's only our fiction that makes up the world
there's only ever me
and only ever you.
