A poem I'm submitting to a contest about my fear of abandonment, hope you enjoy. :)
Let's play the game
It's the one I've been playing for years
And yet
I always lose
It's called leave
Here's how it goes;
You show up
Beautiful and sweet
And win me over
This is just the start
You pull me in
Make me fall
But your arms were never meant to catch
You
Like everyone else
Are the wind
Sweet yet
Fleeting
So before we meet
Before I see your eyes like the moon
Your lips like the sea
Your hands like cashmere
Leave
Turn your back and go
Because if I know you
Know you're soul
You'll kill me
Take a sliver for yourself to remember
On lonely days
But if you leave now
You get this moment
My dark begging eyes
My soft bargaining lips
My hard pushing hands
Just leave
I'll probably push you away someday
Anyway
