Describing Color to a Blind Person
There was this blind guy ya' see,
He was the one sitting next to me,
And He turned around in his seat,
With his backwards facing feet,
And asked the one question,
I couldn't answer.

"What does it look like?"
He said, implying his lack of sight.
"Excuse me?" I so wittingly retorted.
"Oh, don't be foolish, you know my sight is distorted."

Indeed I did, although I tried not to show it.
"Listen; if someone's blind, they can't see you trying to be stoic."
I was shocked-could he really see?
"No dummy, I have ESP." the guy said to me

Right then I nearly fell off my chair-
when he quickly added "just kidding, but I got ya there..."
I scowled, a frown like a permanent fixture on my face.
"Listen old Man, You better learn your place."

"Tell me one thing, and then I'll leave ya alone,
So you can finish your stuff and then go home."
I raised my brow at the assumption,
But he didn't notice, and continued the question.

"That thing over there, describe it to me.
I'll bet it's blue, or Black, or maybe even green?"
"Wrong. It's white, old man can't you see?"
Then I realized he would take that literally.

He was quite silent for a moment then replied,
Totally annoyed, I simply just sighed.
"Well, go on; describe the color 'white'."
What would He gain from this almost-sight?

"Well, to begin with, it's very light."
"Yes, yes, I know what is white.
So Of course it's bright" He retorted
And I thought- I should really get my priorities sorted.

"Imagine an angel's warm glow, waiting to envelope,
Or a cloud in the sky, puffy, and starting to develop.
A bright shining sun can make the sand look white,
Or the sun itself; just don't stare or you might lose your sight..."

I trailed off, my words slowing,
Stopping because of the look he was showing.
Pure serenity, dead eyes almost to a close,
Nirvana of color, seeing the white of pure snow.

"Thank you" I heard him say,
His voice sounding oddly far away,
As if I was the one so distanced,
Now that I knew I had to just let someone listen.
