A poem about a difficult transition.
The Child Inside

Hiding behind the mask
and facade of adulthood
Behind the coffee drinking driver
there's a child misunderstood

Worried to come out
for it is no longer welcome
But keeping up the front
is getting to be too difficult

Walking in heels
Taking responsibility
Making smart decisions
No one can see the fear in me

Cries of a young soul
Not yet ready for the world
But forced to swallow it whole
Just a little girl

Cannot fit in with children
too tall and grown
Cannot fit in with adults
too small and unknown

Tired of living a fake existence
waiting for it to feel real
I cannot handle being an adult
I feel like an intruder here
