Betrayal and revenge are often two sides of the same coin.
The Kiss

I let you think you picked me up, when I came into your life.
We began a taut liaison and kept it secret from your wife.
Our complicit secret fumblings made you trust me ever deeper.
How little did you know, your lover’s a deceiver!

Now I know your every short cut, your every long and leafy lane;
The places that you call home and those dark places in your brain.
You have gifted me your secrets, and put blind faith in my devotion.
If I were honest I'd be touched, but I can't stomach that emotion.

Did my kiss still taste as sweet on the day I let you down?
The day I gave you up and the circus came to town.
You thought your little secrets were forever safe with me;
But my allegiance was pretence, and I chose to set them free.

Now my objective is achieved and your life lays there in tatters
everything is lost; and there's nothing left for you that matters
there'll be no new years honours list and no victory like parade
but at least you now know what it feels like to have been betrayed.
