Road Trip!

Started out with high hopes, major anticipation:
journey detoured with sickness, exhaustion and a concussion.
Headaches all round. Time constraints pushed and pulled
far more on this side of the cup. All with little feedback,
mega worry, fears of disappointing.
Take the high road to the top of the mountain
even though daily avalanches threatened.
Did I challenge too much or not enough?
Was my faith displaced? I know they can succeed.
I know it. Or do I know nothing?

No. Not true.
I got to know, learned about and was entranced
by those who participated far more
than ever before. I got to revel in creative
footsteps, watch skill develop, push the hesitant
beyond detours and bumpy roads.
The only toll was time.
The mental engine stalled, The gauges failed
and time escaped from overheated radiator of thought
to pool in wordless puddles.

Yet day after day, clawing shredded fingertips
they climbed the steep sides of Sestina Mountains,
weathered flooding rivers of verbiage
forbidden to use that which came, forced to alternative routes.
The shine of green lit craft brightened dark alleyways
and they emerged--bloody and bludgeoned
to rise and conquer! They traversed the byways
and took the scenic paths round
collapsed bridges of expression
to soar across canyons some once dared not leap!
For me: win/win scenario.
