There
She is
Dead
Deceased
Putrid meat
A prerequisite
Of having ever lived
I of course didn’t kill her
But I sure as hell
Knew her
I was right here
Within proximity
When she died
I could have saved her
At least
I could have tried
But I did not
She asked me
Not to interfere
She assured me
That what she was doing
Was precise and clear
That she was
Without question
In a correct state of mind
She asked me to witness
To stand here just in case
No one believed
In all that she
Was capable of
In all that she
Was about to do to herself
What a hell of a way to go
Standing in front of a
Virtually unstoppable train
The early morning run
Heading back into the sun
The engineer helpless to steer
Going where the track takes him
He had no idea she was there
But certainly I did
Around the bend
Death came for my friend
She stood true and tall
Amazingly unafraid
I was scared to all ends
But again
As she wished
I did and said nothing
I just watched as it happened
As she committed herself to what
She was sure was the answer
The train slammed into her
And
Like a bug on a windshield
She was obliterated
Death was beyond instant
Her body exploded
Her limbs went one way
Her torso went every other
Her head was ripped clean
High up it screamed
Then
It landed right at my feet
The cut was clean
Her face undamaged
Her skin pristine
Her eyes open and wide
Behind dead eyes
I could see that she
For the first time in her life
She was at some form of peace
I reached down and touch her lips
Ice cold
I ran my hand through her hair
I assured her that life was not fair
And that I could relate
To all that she had done here
Slowly I slid my hand
Across her vacant eyes
Forever closing them tight
To me in that instant
Is when she really died
When the police arrived
They asked me
What did you see
I replied
Ask her…
