The Things I saw the Other Day
When I walked down the street the other day,
I saw the saddest sight,
I must say.

A puppy with a neck so thin,
And legs to small
To carry him.

He wobbled and fell,
Whimpered and curled,
And though he didn't speak, his eyes did tell.

He had no collar,
Just matted fur
With no colour.

He coughed and hacked,
He curled and died,
yes, that's a fact.

-----

As I walked out of a store the other day,
The thing I saw shattered my heart,
It's eyes shining grey.

A kitten with orange fur,
That ran away from bigger cats,
I heard yowls, but not one purr.

I saw it turn the corner and dash away,
And into my arms.
I held it, and I couldn't figure out how little he weighed.

The older cats turned around,
slipped past the corner,
and I was home bound.

With the small cat in my arms,
he licked my necklaces and bracelets,
filled with charms.

I gave him a piece of cat food,
ran to the vet,
she only said, "He's screwed."
