I wrote this about the day my father died
You came to me one morning
Without any warning
Calmly you spoke and told me what to do
You walked away and on the couch you stayed
You sat straight up and closed your eyes

I thought you were only sleeping
But the operator told me to take your pulse
I felt none at all
So I quickly pulled your body to the floor

I had no idea what was in store

More instructions
I suddenly blew air
Into your mouth
I pumped your chest
There was no response
Then in came the EMS

And let me tell you the rest

I walked away and
away I whent
Somewhere to go
Somewhere to vent
To many people
To many noises
It felt as if my sanity was being exploited

I whent to see what's going on
This guy came to me in disarray and alarm
He told me

Your father is dead

And suddenly the thought
Echoed in my head
As obvious as it was
I had no idea
What that day had in store for me

The grim reaper came to take him away
And in peace is where he shall forever stay
