A brief poem
Nonsense tales told in the dark
Unfold worlds of wonder
in the little mind
Lying beside me
The passage of the years reveals
the tales for what they are:
Nostalgic perhaps but still nonsense

What about the wonder
they awoke all those years ago?
The little mind is now all grown up,
a bright young woman
with a mind of her own.
Does any of that wonder remain?

Who can say where it went,
or if it still abides
in the misty reaches
of her memory,
or mine?

But I have seen its footsteps
in the half remembered light
of other minds, and heard its rumours
in the words of other voices.
And I search endlessly for the paths
where fancy reaches truth and walks abroad, fully awakened.
