A poem about a couple I recently observed. Written in a slightly modified pantoum form.
Witness, a woman and man at lunch.
Each one's head bowed down to a phone.
How queer this woman and man;
Sitting together, but each one alone.

Each one's head bowed down to a phone.
No time to gaze into the other's eyes for these two
Sitting together, but each one alone.
Any possible closeness postponed.

No time to gaze into the other's eyes, for these two
Browsing solitary worlds of their own.
Any possible closeness postponed.
To this woman and man is romance unbeknown?

Can this masquerade as romance
In our digital craze?
Witness, a woman and man at lunch;
Sitting together, but each one alone.
