A tribute to a piece of my childhood, and a large part of my adult life.
Labyrinth

Once more into the Labyrinth
Where life it twists and turns
With markers set out on the plinth
and memories that burn
Transitions from December
To January’s trance
Where everything’s remembered
In the magic of a dance
Where heroes have their rise, their falls
and villains hold the fray
Icons, just life size, hold thralls,
And live beyond their days
Destined for a greater path
Both guiding lights and stars
Bookmarks, where we lived and laughed
Deeply etched, now scars
Bittersweet carved canyons
Where echoed youths reside
Nostalgic are our banyans
Our resistance to the tide
That ebb of time that pulls us on,
Forever once it starts
Bless the ones that push upon,
Push us to the parts
The parts that make us stronger
The places that might hold
Let our souls stretch out much longer,
Our hearts grow up more bold
As the world falls down around us
Underground, under the weight
It has no power over us
Our will is strong, our kingdom great
It’s only forever, as our truths run
Not long at all, as owls fly
Fate moves the stars for no one
Within you the answers lie
In the places where the mazes twist
Forgotten in life’s play
A Labyrinth with all we’ve missed
… remembered all the way
