February 11, 2016 drive
Barb wired stretches along the highway,
between old gray post,
leaning hard toward the ground.

Delicate feet clasp cold metal as
Puffed up breasts flash in the sun,
Bright yellow. Throats vibrate with
melodious release, wrapped in
black vestments.

Beaks laughing, clacking, chatting
between warbles. Feathers fluff,
wings stretch, bodies launch
into crisp clear air under
azure Kansas skies.
