Crucifixion through the eyes of a child
Through the Eyes of a Child,
In amongst the time of play.
Many I would see,
Taken to that place,

Where they would beg and plea.
I watched from a distance,
A shadow in my mind.
Then I must have realised,

The hatred of mankind.
This day for the first time,
I cautiously drew near.
I shivered as I stood,

Looking on in fear,
That man could really do this,
To his fellow man.
Let their precious life blood,

Stain this accursed land.
But this day would be different,
Two men there, already hung.
A crowd had slowly gathered,

Many cried what have we done.
From afar came one who was broken,
Ripped apart by man.
But proud and loved so deeply,

By the touch of an unseen hand.
But still they pierced Him with their nails,
And hoisted Him on high.
As I saw the strength within Him,

I bowed my head and cried.
How could they all do this,
To such a precious One.
I didn't really understand,

He just seemed so alone.
And yet He seemed to gently find,
One who held Him close.
A light from high shone in His eyes,

As a mighty storm arose.
As a child, I didn't realise,
The battle being fought,
Of good and evil, death and life,

That by blood my sins were bought.
I felt the warmth of my mother's touch,
With a tear, she took my hand,
I took one final glance behind,

For His love would save our land.
