Darkened Days Have Passed

I have remembered,
I have regret.
My mind has led me one way,
and heart another.
I have faked a smile,
when nothing but dark thoughts
have loitered in my head.
I have put to shame
decisions I have once made.
Obscure mutilations
cover my body.
And I fought a brutal war
to be left with scars on my heart.
But love has always lingered,
unceasingly in myself.
And the person I can be,
the person I want to be.
I will be.
