Entry for Writer's Camp competition
Early September: Autumn's nearly here,
When everything's flavored in delicious beer.
Maybe it's brewed from fresh herbs, or rice,
Or, possibly there's some pumpkin spice.

There's even a special occasion, to boot.
On Halloween, lots of people find it a hoot
To dress in disguise in whatever's handy
And go door to door in search of good candy.

All the preparations begin many months before
With unseasonable displays in many a store.
Whether bags of chocolate to be given as treats
Or costume-kit ghosts, complete with white sheets.

It seemed that Christmas was rolled out in June,
And now Trick-or-Treat will be here too soon.
The obsession for pre-selling goes unabated,
Despite any feelings that it is overrated.

But Oktoberfest parties bring lots of cheer
For honoring harvests or just drinking beer.
To some the year seems to go by oh, so fast
But for others, it's 'finally, fall's here at last!'
