from a writing prompt
Dar sits alone in the darkness of the cabin, listening to the gentle waves against the hull. Lighting his pipe, thoughts drift to his love, far away on a distant shore. He lowers the match to light the small oil lamp on his desk. Reaching for a piece of foolscap, and dipping the quill to the ink well, he begins to scribe:

I sit alone in the darkness, so very far away
Warmed only by your heart
And the precious words of love you say
This journey keeps us too long apart

I hunger for your welcome embrace
The deep, heated kiss
The glow in your eyes that light your face
All the treasures that I miss

Pearls and gold are not worth the wait
Time to turn the wheel and head for home
Naught for pieces of eight
The seas to nev’r more roam
