The Smell of Snow

I don't know what it smells like
right before the snow.
I've never lived somewhere
where it snows during the winter.

Los Angeles in California is too warm
for it ever to snow.
My school is even more south,
which makes it warmer than home.

For some reason, it doesn't snow
in Tasmania, Australia, during the winter,
either. You'd think it would,
being so south.

The one time I saw real snow
was winter in Texas.
Buuuut the little Texan town
is the Cow Capitol, so almost always
smells like cows, and
I'm pretty sure snow doesn't-
or shouldn't- smell like cow.
