A soldier's thoughts during his latest fight
The fighting has started already.

Immediately, I am on my feet and running to grab my gun and wondering, will I survive today's fight?

Shouting from both sides, I can barely hear my commander, over the sound of guns being fired, bullets hitting the ground, piercing flesh and bone. It's the same every day.

Those braver than I, attempt to cross the front line, alas, their journey is cut short in an instant, from a wall of enemy fire. We will remember and honour them for their bravery and sacrifice.

I hold my breath as I ready my next shot, wondering who's life have the cards dealt. Mine or the enemys?

My shot rings out, causing my hearing to cut out, only for a matter of seconds, before the bullet strikes my enemy between the eyes. I was lucky, a few more seconds of hesitation, then my time would be up. There is no guarantee of life in war and we all know that.

How much longer will this last? Will I live today? Tomorrow? Will I be able to see my loved ones after this is over? I will never know the answer.

The only thing I know is that I am fighting for my country and I am proud.
