A poem about life
A new babe is born; a new light shines, a flower blooms.
Held in loving arms. Unable to shake a sense of doom.
The child reaches out in fear, but is told to be strong;
Yet never can she completely silence the world's sorrowful song.
As her mind matures, she observes the cruelty that surrounds her.
The stories and images of modern life terrorize and confound her.
Defiantly, with courage, she steps out alone into the tempest.
She tries to keep her head held high, but she is unnerved by the world's violence.
Thrown into the pit of snakes,
she searches desperately for relief;
She pursues a futile quest for companionship
In a nihilistic world devoid of belief.
Her journey is wearisome, her strength begins to fade.
As she lays her aged, tired head down
Tears of pain and isolation start to invade.
She wishes she could have been like them - ignorant and callous.
Her broken heart would not exist if she could have been heartless.
Her breathing slows, her vision fades, as she inhales just one more time;
She dies as she lives - lonely and alone - left only with hope for the sublime.
