A poem I wrote years ago about someone I thought I knew.
Do I have to knock down each barrier
just to reach you?
I face the mirror
for pep talks in the loo.
Because awkward silences
greet drunken truths.

Are you scared to love?
Does it hurt to feel?
Once bitten twice shy
is that the deal?
Did previous men
steal your trust
made you wary again?

Just sieze the chance
lay down with me
close your eyes
let your dreams run free.

But you won't
You can't
Your fingers have been burnt.
How can I pay?
When your love has to be earnt.

Upstairs friends reappear
jealousy to,
his intentions unclear.
Is it a friendly hug or
is it more?
Would he catch you if you fall?
When he succeeds in breaking down your wall.

Are you just another object
he will own?
finish their job
of burning you to the bone?
Or be like me
stuck in your friend zone?
