An integral part of who we are today

As the clock ticks, the numbers turn,
Days to months, months to years
A moment special to hold on to,
The object of everyone's yearn.

Memories, mind's archives of the past,
Abstract in form, but hold true to all
Some to cherish, others to fade,
Some leave scars of aghast

My mom's food, made delicious with love,
Splashing puddles as rain hits the ground
Warmth I feel as tears roll down my cheeks
Of joy, shining light from above

Some to scared to recount,
others break me into peals of laughter
Silliness, pain, loss,
Myriads of emotions on me mount

As I walk down the fabled lane,
All amalgamate with me,
The good, the bad, the joy, the suffering,
Making me who I am today
Is it seeing myself in the mirror,
or peeping through the windowpane.
