A poem that is all over the place, but I love it just the same.
I’d pick you some flowers,
but then,
I’d have fewer berries to bring.
I’d bring you some berries,
but then,
I’d have less jam to bring.
I’d bring you some jam,
but,
you’d like it better if I brought
fresh bread too, I thought.

So,
I’ll wait…

I never brought you jam,
‘Cause I didn’t make the bread.
I never brought you berries,
‘Cause I said you’d rather jam.
I never brought you flowers,
‘Cause I thought I’d bring you berries.

So now, I’ve managed to:
never bring you flowers
never bring you berries
never bring you jam
never bring you bread
To never bring you anything.

Who knows if tomorrow will come!
It may never come.
What then?
I’d have waited too long
to show you I care
I’d have wasted so much time.

So,
today I’ll bring you flowers
they might never become berries;
today I’ll bring you berries,
I might never make jam;
today I’ll bring you jam,
I might never have the bread;
today I’ll come and see you,
I might not have another chance.

Why wait until a time
that might never come to pass?
When here and now I can love you
as time and times shall pass.
