Flash fiction under 300 words. I can see the future.

It's blurry, the image. It's a figure, the face distorted. I strain to make out the details. This is unusual, unsettling. I always see the faces, but not this time. The figure glides through a fog. It's a male, I can tell by the size. I know I need to see his face, but a sharp pain pierces my head.

My eyes spring open.

"I'm sorry," I say, "It's not working."

"But you said you would tell me. I paid you."

"I know what I said. I can see the future, but It's not something I can control. I'll try again."

I close my eyes and focus on my breathing, control it, slowly inhale. I let my mind drift and a shiver runs down my arms. It's familiar and comforting. It's working. An image slowly appears. It's him again, the figure. This time I look up at the face but he turns away like he knows I'm there. He can't know, they never know.

He walks away. I follow. It's dark. I close the distance. I'm not worried about getting close, this is what I do.

We turn a corner. There's another figure, suddenly close. Another male. This face I see, it's gnarled, grimacing, fearful. There's a fight, I feel the negative electricity spinning around me. A glint of silver then a stream of red.

I open my eyes again. My heart is pounding, I'm dizzy.

"What, what is it?" He yells. "You know don't you, you know what I did."

I stand up. So does he. He lunges, a flash of silver, then a searing pain lurches through my body.

I look down at the knife lodged in my stomach. A moan creeps from my lips.

This time it wasn't his future I saw, it was mine.
