A self observation.
My World Called Home
By: Mel Thomas

In my world called Home
I am surrounded by many things
No two look the same.
I have a baby grand piano.
It's not a Baldwin nor a Yamaha
But sounds and performs like a concert grand.
I have no interest in its brand.

My walls are covered with various textures, colors
African, Asian, Native American and Modern
Quotes both humorous and motivational.
I love being surrounded by art, both copied and originals.
I love the signatures of family and friends
Otherwise, I'm not impressed.

The first thing I see when I open my eyes in the morning
Is sky.
And I thank God.
Not only am I alive,
I have vision.
Breakfast can be anything from oatmeal, coffee and an orange
To fried shrimp with cheese grits, coffee and an orange
To pastilles, coffee and
An avocado.
And I thank God.
Not only do I have food
I'm able to prepare it on my own.
I have a closet full of clothes and shoes
I seldom wear.
And dresser drawers
Filled to capacity with things I rarely use
If ever.
I talk or text with friends or family everyday
And humor is never that far away.
What concerns me
Is when I watch the morning news
And hear that there's been another mass shooting
And I no longer flinch.
