Stepping softly onto warm grass,
contented from this morning’s mass,
I catch a glimpse of ivory lace.
Prim twins clench blades with placid face.

Their spectral gowns stir blossoms shed,
Nostrils twitch, sniffing rising dread.
Twisting stomach sinks to dark place,
Prim twins clench blades with placid face.

How do they know I don’t belong?
I know I’m different, though I’m not wrong.
They don’t agree, my fear embrace.
Prim twins clench blades with placid face.

Satin buttons strain as arms rise.
Whiskers quiver beady, black eyes.
I stumble backward, they give chase.
Prim twins clench blades with placid face.

Frilled cuffs slide down, sharpened steel glints.
Tranquil leaves’ rustle holds no hints
to how zealots came to this place.
Prim twins clench blades with placid face.

Slim arms descend and pain erupts
scarlet splashes, screams interrupt.
Evil today, utter disgrace.
Prim twins clench blades with placid face.

Why did no shepards warn of this?
Instead, they dug their own abyss,
so many works of good erased.

So focused on such rigid rules,
our course, it seems, was left to fools.
Vision fades, for the end I brace.
Prim twins clench blades with placid face.

What happens when our guides are lost?
When binds of trust are double crossed?
Will soiled souls find their blissful space?
Prim twins clench blades with placid face.

I lay beneath a weighty bough,
final breath whispers solemn vow:
“I won’t allow theft of my grace.”
