The loss and gain of beauty and power
I saw a dead squirrel on the ground
Its tail surprisingly luxurious
and it made me think how our crown
is luxurious.
and then it brought to mind
Brittany Grier and how they cut her hair.
or did they?
or did she have to cut it because of bugs?
I hate bugs that want to nest in hair.
and I think how they took her strength like Sampson.
or did they?
or did SHE take it back?
while they held her behind bars
Clipping her hair like wings
Not knowing she used her legs and feet to fly
When she flew in that cold prison what
song gave her wings to lift her up
which reminds me of another poem?
and perhaps that is why we have always known why the
caged bird sings
But anyway
But anyway
she did not fall.
I saw all this to say,
I saw a dead squirrel today
his tail was still luxurious and even
Death could not take that from him.
