Dutch Tanka on the subject of "Open Doors" for Writer's Cramp July 12, 2023
He staggers near,
changing his failing grip.
Damn, it's heavy!
Not far to go...
What the hell?

The damn door's shut!
What's wrong with these people?
How many times
has he told them?
How many?

If it's been once,
it must be a hundred.
"I'm working here -
don't shut this door!"
Are they deaf?

No they're just dumb,
or just bloody awkward.
So down he bends -
sets down his load.
Why me, Lord?

Because it pays -
don't ask damn fool questions!
He turns the knob,
kicks the door wide.
So now what?

Tell them again?
He knows how these clowns are!
Dumb as a rock.
Thick as a brick.
What to do?

"Right!" he exclaims,
taking his screwdriver.
Hinges removed,
door set aside.
"You see that?"

People just stare
as he rants and he raves.
"Let's see you close
the damn door now!
You hear me?"
